Dear Neighbors:

This has been a busy summer.  We have made good progress on a number of fronts and received a healthy scare on others.

On the good news front, we have completed the rehabilitation of Reed College Place.  A few spots still are roped off and are awaiting a second seeding.  Overall, the centerpiece of our neighborhood is quite changed from the spectacle of last year when the city stopped watering and maintaining the seven block area.  On the Union Pacific Railroad litigation front, we have completed a very successful discovery effort and have a good solid position to take forward to the judge.

On the healthy scare front, a developer proposed knocking down one of the beautiful Eastmoreland houses and replacing it with two "skinny" houses.  We were surprised to find out that decisions by the Portland city council have eroded traditional zoning laws.  A groundswell of sentiment helped change the developer's mind.  we will be working on changes to keep the character of our neighborhood intact.

A second round of the annual appeal will be hitting mailboxes soon.  This will be addressed only to those who did not respond to the first effort.  The funds go to preservation of our park, inoculating trees, maintaining trees and ground cover along Reed College Place, and supporting our efforts to block expansion of the Brooklyn Railyards into our neighborhood.   Not to mention other projects like the 4th of July Parade, the annual garage sale, the newsletter, and many other projects.  Please help us make Eastmoreland a better place to live.
