I have had two occasions where UPS packages have been taken from my front porch. My front porch is on Woodstock and therefore very difficult to monitor. I have chosen to ship all deliveries to my business address but realize  Eastmoreland residents shouldn't have to do this in the first place.What I believe we should do is aggregate these and any additional incidents of this nature and file a police report as well as as inform adjacent neighbors to watch out for suspicious activities.

The neighborhood was well represented.  About 200 neighbors attended.  The meeting was orderly -- sort of -- but not the riot that occurred in Alameda.  One pro T-Mobile heckler was present.  T-Mobile made an acceptable presentation -- weak on details at times -- but generally professional.  Dieter Niebert, the affected neighbor, made a rather good presentation opposing the tower.  The vast majority of comments opposed the tower on a variety of grounds.  The city representatives were helpful, but did not appear to view their role as active advocates for the homeowners.

zoning laws should protect us and need to be changed.  In the meantime, T-Mobile has a

public relations disaster on its hands as they attempt to cram these industrial structures up

against "private" homes in Alameda AND Eastmoreland.  Telecoms like to talk about "dead

zones" when they refer to cell phone service.  If a cell tower goes in on your street, your

neighborhood becomes a REAL ESTATE DEAD ZONE:   your house unsellable.  Those who

think cell towers in residential areas are such a good idea should submit their address to

T-Mobile quickly so we can prevent this tower from ruining S.E. Ogden, and place it on their

parking strip instead.  What is more important, 4G coverage with T-Mobile or protecting the

health of our families and the investment we've made in our homes?

UP has looked into the recent noise issue and replaced one alarm that they believe may have been the source of the noise. See below.

Bruce, we have looked into the concern you raised about backup alarms on equipment at Brooklyn Yard being louder than usual lately. We performed an inventory of our cranes, packers, and hostler trucks and found that, with the exception of one relatively new crane, all of our equipment at Brooklyn had “smart alarms” that automatically adjust the output level to 10 db(A) + 4 above the ambient noise level, as is recommended for worker safety.

The new crane did not have a smart alarm and emitted a constant decibel level. We believe that the alarm on this piece of equipment may have been the source of the extra loud noises you were hearing. We replaced it with a self-adjusting alarm on August 22, 2011.

Going forward, our intention is to hire an independent consultant to further evaluate our OSHA compliance and confirm that all of the equipment is operating properly.

The Neighborhood Clean-up this year is Sat, July 9, at the parking lot/open area at Duniway Elementary School.  (NW corner of the school - SE Rex and SE Reed College Place)

The Clean-up is an event we share with the Reed Neighborhood (located to the north of Reed College, from SE Steele to SE Holgate and SE 27th to around SE 39th).

I think this new website was in progress when you first came across it.

This just came online in the past week.  Great suggestions for getting the word out.  Thanks!
